In the novel Lord of the Flies, the author, William Golding, portrays a story about children that are stranded on an island with no adults to take charge and leadership; therefore, the children have to create their own system of government so they can survive.

This evil irreversibly transformed Ralph’s perspective of humanity and leads him to become more conscious of his personal decisions. Furthermore, in Lord of the Flies, Golding demonstrates the ability of man’s innate darkness to rapidly taint innocence and overwhelm one’s civilized tendencies.

Ralph is a compelling character because he is the one who fights to keep civility alive amongst the boys and tries to stop them becoming savages.
