In fact, some research points out that the rate of increase of childhood overweight and obesity in these countries is more than 30% higher than that in the developed world (WHO, 2014). As such, this condition is rapidly becoming a threat to human health in the developing world than even in developed countries.

The health consequences for obese children at their current status as well as in the future has acted as an impetus for raised interest in the role that both the society as well as the government plays in childhood obesity prevention (Gill et, al, 2009).

To compound the problem, the authors conclude that research has shown that the fattening effects of increased intake of energy-rich foods is not necessarily offset by a corresponding increase in physical activity, making eating patterns the single most significant contributor to childhood obesity.
