Essay in mla

MLA style specifies guidelines for formatting manuscripts and using the English language in writing. MLA style also provides writers with a system for referencing their sources through parenthetical citation in their essays and Works Cited pages.

The pages must have 1-inch margins. The text should be double spaced with 12-point font usually Times New Roman including quotations and notes. Different paragraphs must be separated with half an inch. The first page (the header) is slightly different from the rest of the paper.

The guidelines for citing an essay in MLA format are similar to those for citing a chapter in a book. Include the author of the essay, the title of the essay, the name of the collection if the essay belongs to one, the editor of the collection or other contributors, the publication information, and the page number(s).

The MLA format piece should start with a block of information containing a writer’s last name and a number of the page in the right upper corner of each page. Place the header flush right.
